Health Benefits

Let's talk Waterbeds!

Relief

Back pain & Muscle pain

Back pain – Muscle pain
People suffer backpain at some stage in their life and most will spend a fortune treating the symptoms instead of the cause. Then comes the added stress of trying to conceal the pain because their livelihood and way of life depend on it.  They have to go to work!

That pain, however, could be caused by something as simple as their bed. Even the most expensive conventional bed, if it is the wrong bed will cause pain.

A waterbed moulds to your unique body shape so comfort is instant.  You feel the bed take control of your tired, aching body, allowing you to sleep!

You’ll know if your bed is the cause of your pain because you’ll be a restless sleeper.  You’ll do a lot of tossing and turning as pressure-points stop your blood supply and your brain tells you to move or turnover! More than likely, you’ll fight with your pillows.  You’ll use pillows, or other padding, to level up or rest a leg or to  support your back and other parts of your body.

Benefits – Waterbeds are good for everyone

Your body has a unique curve.  If you sleep on a bed, too hard or too soft this curve is forced into an unnatural shape – result, pain!  This in turn puts pressure on the intervertebral discs – the small cushions that act as shock absorbers between the vertebrae.  During the rigours of the day these cushions tend to lose the fluid and elasticity needed to keep your back supple – hence the pain.  A waterbed takes on the natural shape of your body allowing these discs to recover whilst you sleep.

Quality Sleep

Quality sleep is vital for good health.  Eight hours of painful, restless sleep is not good because it is during ‘proper’ sleep that the natural healing process takes place and this can only happen if the spinal column …. your body’s motorway… is free from congestion/pressure.  If you sleep on a taut surface (hard bed) night after night you will eventually, suffer the consequences of pressure points that slow blood supply to vital organs, nerves, muscles, tissue.  Repetitive strain injury!

Quality sleep is fundamental to good health. We need quality sleep to be able to function the next day.  It’s easy to see why a waterbed is the healthy answer.  Unlike a conventional bed … you lie in a waterbed, not on it and because you’re in it, the water will conform to your shape, giving full body support.

Healthwise, you spend a third of your life in bed …. making your bed the most important household item you will ever buy.

Health

How is a waterbed so good for my body?   As you lie down, water displaces to support your unique body contours.  It really is that simple.

Pregnancy!  A good example is Mums-to-be.  The water in a waterbed will come up to support the baby taking the strain off Mum’s back.

We evolve in the womb, in water, and we all know how good it feels to lie in bath of water or lie on the surface of a swimming pool.

How does it work? – Pressure-points!  When your blood supply is stopped, reduced or interrupted your brain even as you sleep, will signal you to move or turn over resulting in interrupted sleep?  If this happens night after night, not only are you not sleeping well, but you wake tired, miserable, irritable (bad tempered) and very likely stiff and in pain.

Sadly, it is only when we reach adulthood, having suffered years of not sleeping properly, that we realise just how important our bed is to our quality of life.  The good news is, bone formation continues throughout life and, although we can’t turn the clock back, it is never too late to work on redressing the balance.  Some of our clients are in their 90’s, some, well over 6ft 6inches tall (210cm), some pretty heavy.  We accommodate them all because our beds are individually made.  Our biggest beds out there 8ft x 8ft (240 x 240cm).

Your spine has a unique curve and if you sleep on a bed that is too hard or too soft this curve is forced into an unnatural shape.  This in turn puts pressure on the intervertebral discs and the small cushions that act as shock absorbers between the vertebrae.  During the rigours of the day these cushions lose fluid and the elasticity needed to keep the back supple, result – pain.  This is when a waterbed comes into a league of its own. A waterbed takes on your natural shape, allowing your back to recover whilst you sleep.

The good news

The good news is, bone formation continues throughout life and, although we can’t turn the clock back, it is never too late to do what we can to redress the balance and get a good night’s sleep, every night.
